Volleyroos can compete at Olympics
AUSTRALIA volleyball coach Jon Uriarte believes Toowoomba's Travis Passier and the rest of his men's squad can surprise some of their more fancied opponents at the Olympic Games.
The Volleyroos squad for the London Games was formally announced this morning and despite already exceeding expectations by just qualifying, Uriarte said the best was yet to come.
"I think we have such an ambitious group that is improving day after day. This team has amazing potential and they are nowhere near the heights they could reach," Uriarte said on the Australian Olympic Committee website.
"We are heading to London looking to crash the parties of some of the higher ranked teams while knowing that in next four and eight year blocks this team could do something really special, really important for the sport in Australia."
Passier and his Volleyroos team mates received bipartisan support at this morning's team announcement in Canberra.
He met both Prime Minister Julia Gillard and opposition leader Tony Abbott as both politicians were on hand for the announcement of the squad.
Australia's opening match is against Argentina on July 29.
