Tough weekend on the water for our comp

IT WAS a tough weekend on the water for anglers competing in the annual Lake Proserpine Jack Erskine Catch and Release Tournament, according to Faust Dam Fish Restocking Association secretary Lesley Slade.

"It was windy but it hasn't been too bad. The fishing has been tough and the fish caught on the weekend was pretty dismal,” she said.

But 69 barramundi and four sooty grunters were caught, which is two fish more than last year's total.

Thirty-six boats were registered for the tournament and each boat contained two anglers who were invited by the association to compete.

Some travelled from NSW but most were made up of anglers from all over Queensland.

Champion angler went to Craig Griffiths after he was awarded 4723 points.

Griffiths won a prize pack and trophy sponsored by the Whitsunday Regional Council.

Slade said Griffiths' winning margin of four points was the smallest ever recorded.

Longest Barramundi of 125cm was won by Peter Larsen and the Champion Team was won by Peter Price and Kev Greer.
