Travel writers explore region

THE Whitsundays will host some of Australia's leading travel writers this weekend.

Tourism Queensland and Tourism Whitsundays are hosting the journalists on a “famil” (or familiarisation tour) of the region.

Tourism Whitsundays chief executive Peter O'Reilly said he expected the visit would deliver huge publicity value for the Whitsundays.

“We have the top travel editors from News Ltd, The Age, The Australian Financial Review and the Australian Associated Press on this visit,” he said.

The tour would lead to several articles on the Whitsundays being printed in key publications across Australia, according to Mr O'Reilly.

Each of the writers will experience a different itinerary.

“These take in different aspects of the Whitsundays – from indulgence and romance, to eco and island secrets,” Mr O'Reilly said.

“We also hope to build awareness of the destination with these key decision makers with the aim of securing media famils into the future.”
