Treasurer visits Gladstone to discuss debt with leaders

KEY economic and community leaders in the Gladstone region will meet with Treasurer and Minister for Trade Tim Nicholls on Wednesday to discuss ideas for reducing government debt and deficit.

Mr Nicholls said that at $80 billion the state's debt position is unsustainable.

At a recent CEDA Economic and Political Overview, Mr Nicholls discussed the need for all Queenslanders to begin to discuss choices around deft, deficit and opportunities for the future.

"This is a discussion I am keen to continue because I believe Queenslanders want to engage in a mature and sensible discussion about the future," he said.

A round-table discussion will be held at the Ryges Hotel in Gladstone on Wednesday morning.
