‘Trekkies’ in for movie treat
SCI-FI action will be boldly coming to the Proserpine Entertainment Centre this week.
And by all accounts Star Trek Beyond will be a treat that no self respecting "Trekkie" can pass up.
The film finds the stalwart crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise three years into their five-year mission.
Tedium has begun to take its toll upon Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), forcing him to consider whether he might be happier in a different post.
Spock (Zachary Quinto) too is feeling some anxiety about his future, wondering if he might be of better service if he were to leave Starfleet and romantic partner Uhura (Zoe Saldana), to aid in replenishing the galaxy's Vulcan population devastated in the events of the first film.
However, personal plans are put on hold when Starfleet picks up the lone escapee of a remote skirmish, ordering the Enterprise into unknown territory to save lives.
When the mission is revealed to be a trap orchestrated by Krall (Idris Elba), who's after an artifact Starfleet has taken, the Enterprise is promptly destroyed by the alien's devastating weaponry.
Star Trek Beyond is a rock and roll take on Star Trek, which might alienate some long-time fans, but thrills are definitely there.
The saving grace is the camaraderie and wonderful chemistry of the Enterprise crew.
