THE Whitsundays region enjoyed success at the Queensland Tourism Awards night on Friday – bringing home three awards and being announced as finalists in 11 categories.
The awards were held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Fantasea Adventure Cruising took out the award for major tourist or transport operator, Capers won the award for tourism restaurant and catering and Long Island came home as the winner in the standard accommodation category.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) chief executive Daniel Gschwind said the Whitsundays tourism operators should be very proud of their ongoing contribution to the state's tourism industry.
“Seeing such quality tourism operations really boosts the industry outlook, giving us very good reason to be positive about the strength of our industry, with more outstanding businesses than ever entering the awards this year,” he said.
Premier Anna Bligh said the Queensland Tourism Awards were always a highly anticipated event by the industry and a fantastic way to recognise outstanding Queensland tourism operators.
"Tourism is a vital driver for Queensland's economy, and with the tourism industry facing a tough past 18 months, the awards are an important way of rewarding exceptional tourism businesses for the outstanding product and service they've offered throughout the year.”
