Triple charge from drug search
A PROBLEM with cannabis has caught up with one woman as a police search landed her with a trio of drug charges.
Shannon Lee Nelson faced Proserpine Magistrate's Court on Monday charged with drug possession and possessing a water pipe, grinder and scales.
The 35-year-old mother had been caught with the items after a search warrant was executed at a residence on June 30 this year in Dingo Beach.
Police found 12.2 grams of cannabis, a water pipe, electronic grinder and a set of electronic scales.
Police prosecutor Mike Ball said Nelson told police she admitted to drug use two days prior to the search and said she used the scales to ensure she "wasn't getting ripped off".
Duty lawyer Cleo Rewald said Nelson only used cannabis for personal use and had been trying to quit the drug.
"She was abstaining from cannabis at the end of last year but this has been a relapse for her," she said.
"She would like to kick the habit, so to speak."
Magistrate Simon Young noted Nelson's previous drug related charges and said "history speaks against you to a certain extent".
He also concluded: "it's time to move beyond fines".
"(But) I appreciate she is at a point now where she is ready to move on from her bad habits," he said.
Nelson was sentenced to six months probation.
