UPDATE: A B-DOUBLE travelling south on the Bruce Hwy ran off the road and overturned, destroying its load of avocados.

The crash happened about 2.15pmon Tuesday just north of Howard and Sergeant Steve Webb from the Wide Bay Forensic Crash Unit said the driver was lucky to escape with his life.

"On board is a load of avocados, they've been destroyed," he said.

"The driver is very, very lucky indeed to get out alive considering the mess the cabin's in.

"He was trapped for some time but managed to climb out."

Sgt Webb said if the truck crossed into oncoming traffic instead of down the embankment it would have ended in tragedy.

The 50-year-old driver was transported to Maryborough Hospital in a stable condition with cuts to his legs.

EARLIER: EMERGENCY crews are rushing to a truck rollover at Cherwell, 36km/h north of Maryborough. 

It is believed the crash happened near Howard at about 2.15pm Tuesday.
