Trucks on the trail across Whitsundays
IF YOU thought you were seeing things when a fleet of 10 trucks came to town last week, your eyes weren't deceiving you.
Andrew Willcox is blazing the election campaign trail, on a drive around the Whitsundays, dropping signs off as he goes.
"I've got a team of friends and supporters driving the trucks, and we're hoping to visit Proserpine, Airlie Beach, Cannonvale, Bowen and Collinsville," he said.
Cr Willcox is currently deputy mayor and councillor for Division 6, but he is vying for the top job and promises a focus on a united council and community.
"There will be no more 'us' and 'them'. It will be just 'us'," he said.
First on his list if elected is to fix the Shute Harbour Road stretch over Hamilton Plains.
"That area is subject to flooding, some years it's flooded up to 12 times, it cuts off Airlie Beach and Cannonvale from Proserpine, which means (people) can't access emergency health services, not to mention it halts business and tourist visitors," he said.
Also on his list is the implementation of a recycling scheme in the Whitsundays to protect the "pristine" environment.
