Under-15s go down at AFL carnival
AFTER taking out last year’s Mackay District rugby league premiership, the Proserpine-Whitsunday under-15s side travelled to Townsville last weekend to take part in the annual ARL carnival.
The local side had a win in their round match against Moranbah on Saturday before making their way north to compete in the State-wide competition.
The Pluto Brahmans faced off against Edmonton Storm on Sunday after they beat the 2010 Townsville premiers by nearly 60 points the previous day.
In the Brahmans match, the Storm jumped to an early 18-4 lead in the quarter-final match before the Whitsunday side steadied the ship to creditably hold the very good team in check until late in the game.
Unfortunately though the Storm scored three late tries to win 36-4.
Coach Rod Wecker said the players were sure to learn from the experience as they looked to defend their title against the Mackay teams over the coming weeks.
Also on the weekend the rest of the junior Brahmans took on Moranbah at Proserpine Junior Sporting Complex on Saturday.
Having wins on the day were the U6s, U8s, U9s, U10s, U12s and U15s teams.
Those who had tougher clashes on the day included the U7s, U11s, U13s and U16s who will look to have a win this weekend.
All junior Brahmans will play in Mackay this Saturday.
