Updated Toyota Corolla sedan for 2017
GETTING old gracefully and resting on its laurels is not on the agenda for the Toyota Corolla sedan.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Corolla will be on the receiving end of improved equipment along with minor external and internal tweaks.
The changes and improved kit come at a price premium of between $500-$930.
All variants are powered by an upgraded four-cylinder engine that has maintained the same 103kW/173Nm outputs, with the most notable improvements coming inside via more upmarket finishes.
Base model variants gain a 7-inch touch-screen display with apps such as Pandora radio, as well as improvements in the driver's binnacle with backlit instrument gauges and a 4.2-inch colour multi-information display.
Mid-spec SX models receive satellite navigation as standard, while range-topping ZR gets bi-LED headlamps as well as lane-departure alert and automatic high beam safety gear.
For the Corolla trainspotters, this model is differentiated by new headlamp clusters with LED clearance lamps, and a revised front bumper incorporating a large lower grille.
At the back, LEDs are used in the tail lamp clusters which also feature a chrome garnish.
When in the driver's seat, the suspension should feel better balanced courtesy of larger-diameter shock absorbers, cabin noise is forecast to improve via sound deadening materials in the dash and doors, while the continuously variable transmission is "quicker, crisper and smoother with better matching to engine speed".
Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the upgraded sedan inherits and builds on 50 years of Corolla DNA.
"New guests in the Corolla family will appreciate the sedan's higher levels of technology and safety equipment, its stylish exterior design and the quality ambience of the interior," he said.
