Valleys outdo Canecutters at Kelsey Creek

CRICKET: Scott Hardy continues to cement his spot as Proserpine's premier all- rounder with a stunning display with both bat and ball to lead Valleys to victory over Canecutters.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Valleys were off to a solid start with Jonothan Cutting (32) teaming up with Scott Hardy to put 61 runs on the board for the first wicket.

David Vickers (2/38) and young gun Cooper Lane (2/58) teamed up to make the breakthroughs for Canecutters.

Mike Hope (33) continued his run of form with the bat, notching up a handy 33, while Scott continued to attack wayward deliveries.

Scott offered a few chances that were not accepted by Canecutters fieldsmen and quickly raced to yet another century before falling victim to Cooper Lane on 102.

Cameos by Brett Simpson (19) and Aaron Regan (22) ensured Valleys reached a formidable total of 253 before Matthew Camm (2/49) took two quick wickets to bowl Valleys out in the 31st over.

Canecutters were not off to the best of starts in reply, losing opening batsman Liam Davies (15) early on in the innings, with Valleys captain Aaron Regan claiming the wicket.

Jamie Bell (22) was looking solid in building Canecutters' innings before the man of the moment Scott Hardy claimed Bell's wicket.

Middle order batsman Wayne Smith (54) and David Vickers (41) put on a commendable 82 run partnership to ensure Canecutters remained in the game.

However, it was not to be, with Scott Hardy (3/32), Aaron Regan (2/27) and Mike Hope (2/56) combining well to bowl out Canecutters for 197.

This Saturday Valleys take on the Warriors from 12.30pm at the Proserpine Sporting Complex.

This fixture will coincide with (senior) Pink Stumps Day, with proceeds to go to the McGrath Foundation.

New or returning players are welcome as all teams are looking for players.
