Valleys take a win from 'Cutters

CRICKET: Two full strength sides battled it out on the weekend, with Warriors taking on Canecutters at the Proserpine Sporting Complex.

Bowling first, Warriors opening bowler Shane Knight (1/23) nabbed the early wicket to bring Matthew Camm (21) to the crease to join Liam Davies (30).

The pair put on a 52 run partnership before promising youngster Matthew Hansen (2/24) made inroads into Canecutters middle order.

The two BDs, Ben Dawes (39) and Ben Davis (25) steadied the ship with a 61 run partnership to put their side on the front foot.

Warriors Captain Bryce Fraser (3/22) and impressive youngster Matthew Shoebridge (3/24) decimated Canecutters lower order with the pair taking 6/30 to bundle Canecutters out for 151.

Shoebridge is showing plenty of promise with the ball, following in his brother's and father's footsteps and will no doubt be an even bigger threat in coming years.

He followed up his bowling display with a great effort in the field to take three catches.

With work duties later in the afternoon, Bryce Fraser attacked Canecutters from the get-go, posting an impressive 85 to put his side in a winning position before he was caught on the boundary with a spectacular catch from young Jayden Lane.

With the damage already done from Fraser's blade, Canecutters were staring down the barrel of a convincing defeat.

However, David Vickers (2/36), Brendan Rock (2/37) and yet another youngster, Cooper Lane (2/5) threatened to steal victory from under Warriors' noses.

Unfortunately, wides were the Canecutters' nemesis, with 27 runs coming from wayward deliveries which ultimately led to their downfall resulting in Warriors notching up a close-fought victory with just two wickets remaining.

This Saturday will see Canecutters take on the in form Valleys from 12.30pm at the Proserpine Sporting Complex.

New or returning players are welcome as all teams are looking for players.
