Valleys the team to beat
CRICKET: With Christmas and Australia Day festivities done and dusted for another year, regular cricket fixtures will return to Proserpine Sporting Complex this Saturday when Valleys take on the Warriors from 12.30pm.
With a win just before the Christmas break, Valleys resume at the top of the table on 20.67 points, with Warriors (19.78) and Canecutters (19.17) breathing down their necks.
So far this season, Warriors captain Bryce Fraser and Valleys opening batsman Scott Hardy have led the way with the bat, both notching up centuries and averaging near or more than 100 so far this season.
Scott Hardy notched back-to-back centuries before the Christmas break.
The pair will be looking to continue leading their sides in the second half of the season.
Warriors veterans Shane Knight and Warren Watts led the way with the ball late last season, with the pair single-handedly decimating Canecutters to notch a five-wicket haul each.
The ever-reliable Dave Vickers has led the way for the Canecutters bowlers, while Mike Hope and Aaron Regan have been the standout pair for Valleys with the ball.
A special mention must also be made of the junior players who have stepped up to the senior grade in the 2016-17 season.
Jayden Lane, Cooper Lane, Regan Knight, Matthew Shoebridge, Matthew Hansen, Howard McDonald, Warrick Watts and Noel Waipape in particular have all shown great promise.
It's an example of the talent coming through the Proserpine ranks and they will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in coming seasons.
