VIDEO: Iceland's stunning welcome for national heroes

TO vikings, this was a time to honour victory, not to mourn defeat.

After Iceland shocked the world by beating the UK in the Euro 2016 soccer tournament, the tiny European nation was probably prepared to build enormous brass statues to honour the players.

But when they were kicked out by France, the 320,000 people of Iceland did not turn their backs on their beloved team.

Arriving home in the capital of Reykjavik, which holds one-third of the nation's people, a huge crowd welcomed home their "winners".

And they did so with the so-called "Viking clap". A slow call-and-response that builds and builds and builds into a deafening roar.

It is truly something worth of their heroes.
