UPDATE: A motorcyclist who narrowly avoided a crash after another vehicle overtook a group of cyclists said other vehicles also took evasive action.

Don Wallis was riding near Grantham on Sunday when a vehicle overtook cyclists on a country road.

He had to take evasive manoeuvres to avoid colliding with the car.

The close call was captured on video.

"There were two cars about 50m behind me that also took evasive action," he said.

Mr Wallis added police had seen the video.

He said a timestamp issue on the video meant the incorrect date was displayed.

"It's not a fake video as some have suggested," he said.

EARLIER: A motorcyclist's close call on a country road near Toowoomba has been caught on camera.

Don Wallis was riding his motorcycle outside of Grantham when the terrifying incident took place.

As he approached a group of cyclists coming from the other direction, a car swerved to avoid the cyclists.

A collision with the oncoming motorcyclist was narrowly avoided.

Mr Wallis took aim at the motorist on social media writing: "Don't worry about the solid white line. (You) obviously can't see a cherry red bike with headlight on in clear conditions or (do) not give a rats.

"You put my life at risk, the push bike riders, your kids in the back seat and yours."

Passing bicycle riders

The Department of Transport and Main Roads states motorists must stay wider of bicycle riders by giving a minimum of:

  • 1m when passing a bicycle rider in a 60kmh or less speed zone
    or
  • 1.5m where the speed limit is over 60kmh.

Crossing white lines

To pass a bicycle rider-as long as it is safe to do so-you are allowed to:

  • Drive over centre lines (including double unbroken centre lines) on a two-way road
  • Straddle or cross a lane line (including a continuous lane line) on a multi-lane road
  • Drive on a painted island.

If it is not safe to pass a bicycle rider, you must wait until it is safe to pass.
