Walkers the perfect fit for Tigers says Tedesco's old coach

THE SCHOOLBOY coach of James Tedesco and Mitchell Moses reckons Jets coaches Ben and Shane Walker would be the ideal men to get the best out of Wests Tigers stars .

Coach Jason Taylor has been sacked with Lee Addison insisting the Walker brothers would be the perfect fit for the Tigers.

Ivan Cleary or Todd Payten are favoured to get the gig but Addison, the head of the highly successful Ipswich High School rugby league program, said the Walkers would do the job well.

Addison coached Tedesco at St Gregory's College in Campbelltown when the school won the Metropolitan Catholic Schools title in 2010 and had Moses in rep sides.

"Somebody has got to take a punt on the Walker brothers," Addison said.

"I think they would bring something absolutely different that the opposition don't want to deal with.

"There is no doubt that when they coached the Jets to their maiden (Intrust Super Cup) premiership in 2015 that everyone else in the competition was uncomfortable playing against them.

"I think that is exactly what the NRL needs, a brand of football where somebody does something completely different.

"Moses was in one of my rep sides and he is a free flowing footballer who struggled a little bit with structure.

"Sometimes footballers play better when they don't have to think. They are geniuses in what they do, not what they think.

"David Beckham never thought about how he kicked a soccer ball when he curled a free kick in from 30m out.

"He taught his body how to do it, and that is what sporting genius is.

"I'm not saying there are sporting geniuses in the Wests Tigers team, but they were certainly touted as such when they were young and it needs coaches who allow that genius to flourish in my opinion."

Addison said the style of football encouraged by the Walkers would suit the Tigers' players.

"I'm a believer that you need to let some of these guys play rather than structuring them too much.

"As they go through the systems, and particularly in Sydney, they just get restricted and taught robotic ways.

"But everything about the Walkers suggests that they try and reverse that.

"Tedesco would enjoy that free flowing football that they bring."

The Walkers are contracted to the Jets until the end of the season but the club would not stand in their way if they got an NRL position.
