BEACH Book Boutique owner Belinda Harris got a pleasant surprise when she stepped outside and saw water flowing into Airlie Beach Lagoon.
The pool has been out of action since it was damaged during Cyclone Debbie and Mrs Harris said for the past couple of months she'd felt as though she'd been working in the middle of a construction site.
Now, though, the end was sight.
She said it had been a brilliant surprise when the water started to flow in on Wednesday - a move met with enthusiasm by locals.
Refilling the lagoon will take about five days and once full the water will need to be treated. Additionally, landscaping work must be finished and shade sails installed before the lagoon can reopened.
At this stage the works are on target to for completion by the end of August. Whitsunday Regional Council will advise a date for reopening closer to the completion of work. Mayor Andrew Willcox praised the efforts of contractors and said it was a "great way to help rebuild our community”.
