We all have a touch of cabin fever

THE easing of Covid-19 restrictions on Friday at midnight are welcome because we all have a touch of cabin fever. We’ve been stuck indoors during the day, working or homeschooling (or both), or doing nothing much of anything but bingeing on Netflix.

So when we have ventured out of the house, we’ve started to rebel — just a little. We’re still social distancing but we are meeting that friend for a walk in the park and sitting down to drink our coffee on the grass at the end. We’re stopping at the deck to check the surf on our bike ride and then having a long chat with the neighbours before heading back.

We’re taking a few minutes to browse the new winter fashions in Big W before grabbing the vital printer ink and returning home. I get it.

By and large, we are all trying to do the right thing.

And our diligence with isolation, physical distancing and personal hygiene is translating into keeping the coronavirus statistics compared with other countries.

There is no magic bullet to remedy this scourge. Our Government’s medical advisers nipped it in the bud early. But a continuation of doing what we’re doing is the best weapon against further waves and outbreaks. We need to continue that Anzac fighting spirit well beyond April 25.
