Weekend drug bust nabs nine people

DETECTIVES from the Whitsunday and Mackay police stations arrested nine people on 28 drug-related charges during a two-day drug operation last weekend.

A number of search warrants were executed in the Proserpine and Whitsunday areas which resulted in several arrests on charges of drug production, possession and supply.

At one Cannonvale address, police uncovered a cannabis crop of 89 plants and a sophisticated hydroponic setup.

"With schoolies just around the corner this is a timely reminder that police will continue to target illicit drug activity within the Whitsunday area," Acting Senior Sergent Barry Haran said.

If members of the public have any information involving the production, use or supply of dangerous drugs they should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Whitsunday Police on 4948 8888.
