Whitehaven still friendliest beach

WHITEHAVEN Beach continues its winning streak after being awarded the title of Queensland’s Friendliest Beach.

The award was shared with Palm Cove (north of Cairns) at the 2009 Queensland Beach Challenge State Awards run by Keep Australia Beautiful on Tuesday.

Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Mike Brunker said that it was fitting for Whitehaven Beach to win the Friendliest Beach Award.

“The Friendliest Beach award is about commitment to, and active promotion of visitor friendliness,” Cr Brunker said.

“Whitehaven Beach receives an estimated 150,000 visitors per year and this award highlights the remarkable collaborative effort between stakeholders, residents and visitors.”
