Whitsunday girl to hit the catwalk
IT'S not every day that a young university student from the Whitsundays gets an opportunity to strut her stuff on a Sydney catwalk with a modelling contract beckoning.
It wasn't at the forefront of 21-year-old Gabrielle Bullock's mind either when she moved to Mackay to embark on a Bachelor of Nursing at Central Queensland University.
It wasn't until Bullock's fiancé Nathan Costello saw an advertisement for Ralph Magazine's Australian Swimwear Model of the Year contest that she decided to enter.
“Nathan thought I should give it a go and I decided to do it just to see how far I could advance,” Bullock said.
Not only did she enter, the 21-year-old won the regional contest in Mackay, held at Doors nightclub.
That entitled her to a place in the final, which takes place in the Grand Harbour Ballroom at Sydney's Star City Casino on May 1.
The final will be a wonderful opportunity for the nursing student, with a grand prize of $50,000 as well as the opportunity to network with the who's who of the modelling industry.
If she performs well in the contest - judged on poise, personality, beauty of face and figure, fitness, fashion and music choices - it may be that Bullock has to re-evaluate her future.
“If something like a modelling contract came out of this, at present I would probably take advantage of the opportunity,” she said.
“I love nursing, I've worked in the hospital in Proserpine and my dream job would probably be working in the emergency department at a hospital but I've enjoyed the modelling and now I've got the opportunity to win.”
