Whitsunday weather: What to expect on Christmas Day
Christmas in the Whitsundays is on track to be warm and dry with showers set to hit the region on Boxing Day.
While southern areas of the state – and Mackay – are destined for a drenching on Friday, BOM meteorologist Matt Marshall said the Whitsundays would likely miss the rain for Santa’s visit.
“We possibly do have a little bit of rainfall on the cards for Christmas Day, but it’s more likely for Boxing Day,” he said.

“The trough is setting itself up over Mackay and heading inland from there.
“It looks like the Whitsundays is on the fringes of the rainfall area so you wouldn’t expect very heavy falls.”
Mr Marshall said if there was any rain, it would only be about 20 to 30mm.
Temperatures will also remain steady in Airlie Beach on Christmas with highs of 30C expected.
Bowen residents might experience temperatures a few degrees above average with a top of 33C while Proserpine is headed for a top of 34C.
