Whitsundays has Christmas sorted

NOT sure what to do on Christmas Day? Don't feel like cooking up a storm? Well we've got a comprehensive guide to what's happening in the Whitsundays on December 25.

There's no shortage of venues opening up their kitchens this Christmas, with plenty of restaurants hosting lunches and dinners.

The Reef Gateway Hotel is hosting lunch from 11.30am, at a cost of $80 per person.

Sorrento Restaurant and Bar is also bringing the festive cheer, with the Abell Point Marina venue opening its doors from 11am.

Booking is essential for Christmas lunch but Sorrento is also serving its regular pizza and pasta menu on the day.

At the other end of the marina, Barcelona will service customers until 9pm on Christmas Day, with sharing platters and a banquet.

Closer to Airlie Beach, Capers is offering three different options on Christmas Day, including prawns, smoked turkey and ham with roast vegetables as well as desserts.

Lunch at the Airlie Beach Hotel restaurant starts at noon but the regular menu is also available.

At the Colonial Palms Motor Inn there will be oysters, prawn cocktails, scallops, turkey, baked ham and plum pudding from 12.30pm.

Lunch at Colonial Palms, which costs $115 per person, comes with a complimentary glass of champagne.

Tides Restaurant and Bar isn't only offering lunch and dinner on Christmas Day, it's also throwing in a complimentary shuttle bus to Peppers, leaving from the Whitsunday Shopping Centre, Airlie Beach main street and the Jubilee Pocket IGA.

The menu itself includes three courses including char-grilled sword fish, salt and pepper soft shell crab, scallops, prawns, smoked salmon and oysters.

Similarly, Denmans Cellars is decking the halls with Christmas spirit, offering a feast that includes: prawns, oysters, lobster, salmon, mussels, octopus, smoked ham and roast lamb.

The Christmas package, which costs $95 per person or $30 per child, includes a meal, drink and a present.

Hamilton Island will host Christmas Eve carols by candlelight from 5.30pm.

The event includes a sausage sizzle, refreshments and even a visit from Santa.

Bommie Restaurant (lunch and dinner), Mariners Restaurant (lunch), Sails, Steak and Seafood Grill (lunch), Pool Terrace Restaurant (lunch), Coca Chu Restaurant (lunch) and Romano's Italian Restaurant (dinner) are also bringing the Christmas cheer.

Over on Daydream Island there will be two fun-filled days of gourmet food, entertainment and activities on Christmas and Boxing days.
