NORTH Queensland Cowboys rugby league star Willie Mason was at the official launch of the new Telstra Store Whitsundays in Centro on Saturday.

The controversial player signed autographs for rugby league fans for about two hours.

Mason has visited Hayman and Hamilton islands before but this was his first time in Airlie.

After hearing good reports about the town, he said he was looking forward to going out and mixing with the locals.

The big forward said he was pleased with the football he has been playing for the Cowboys.

“I'm probably playing the best footy I've played for a couple of years,” he said. “I'm pretty happy with my form.”
