Wilmar operations unaffected by recent rain

WILMAR Sugar has described the 2016 growing season as "long” and "challenging”.

Cane supply general manager Paul Giordani said Wilmar Sugar had now processed about 91% of the total crop across its four milling regions.

Falls of up to 50mm have been recorded in the Proserpine district since Sunday night, but the rain event had minimal impact on the crush.

"We stopped for about three hours about 3pm on Monday after cane supply ran out, but have been running continuously since 6pm yesterday,” he said.

"There have been scattered showers about this morning, but the rain is forecast to clear from today and we're hopeful of normal cane supply for the rest of the week.”

Most harvesting groups were still supplying cane to the mill and Wilmar expected to receive about 13,000 tonnes of cane on Tuesday which was slightly below average.

The Proserpine mill still expects to finish crushing on Friday, December 23.

Proserpine Mill has now crushed a total of 1.85 million tonnes of cane, which represents about 95% of the total crop.

"We've crushed a total of 15.27million tonnes of cane, which leaves about 1.48million tonnes to go.”
