Winner of ‘best job’ to inspire our writers
BEN Southall is returning to the Whitsundays and is set to inspire young writers in the region for the annual Whitsunday Writers Festival.
In 2009, the presenter, digital journalist and self proclaimed adventurer, beat 35,000 in entrants to win Best Job in the World becoming the "Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef".
In November 2014, Mr Southall released his book 'The Best Job in the World' which he will discuss at the festival along with his extensive adventures.
This year, the festival will be held from Friday, September 2 until Sunday, September 4 at Lure, Abell Point Marina with food supplied by Fish D'vine.
After being away for 18 months on an international trip, Mr Southall said it would be his first writers festival and was looking forward to his return.
"I want to inspire other people and inspire people to travel," he said.
"My stories are based on my adventures and maximising my experiences on planet Earth."
Mr Southall said he wants to make the most of the experience and speak to other guest speakers to be inspired himself.
"I'd also love to talk to experts about how they would put books together and see what they think makes a good story," he said.
"It'll be really interesting to hear what they have to say."
Founder of the festival Gloria Burley said Mr Southall was the perfect choice as a guest speaker with an incredible story and an animated personality.
"I was looking for somebody who everybody knows and everyone in the Whitsundays known him after he won the Best Job award," she said.
"He's very good at selling himself and we're very excited about him coming."
Ms Burley said attendees can expect to be thoroughly entertained.
"Everyone will meet like minded people and learn a great deal about what the guest speakers discuss," she said.
"You can expect to be pampered with great company, great entertainment and great food."
