Wise choice: New Airlie eatery launches with familiar name

A WELL known Airlie Beach café has been refurbished and rebranded just in time for the new relaxed restrictions around dining.

Wisdom Café, next to the Airlie Lagoon, has long been a favourite spot for both locals and holidaymakers and now, under new ownership, it is taking on a new look, feel and food offering.

Owners Asher and Julie Telford, who own and operate Red Cat Adventures, are excited about the recent purchase of the café. Mrs Telford is looking forward to being involved in a different industry and offering additional employment for the Whitsunday region.

Café manager Jayden Popenko said the aim of the new venture was to "liven up the food scene" with their concept for quick but healthy modern takeaway "not seen before in Airlie Beach".

The café, which has a team of five staff, has been renovated and rebranded as a new Sandwich Bar & Café, and will reopen at the end of June in time for the school holidays.

"We've renovated the café with a fresh new look and a fun menu concept that's unique in Airlie Beach," Mr Popenko said.

"Our primary focus when designing the concept for the cafe was the following three missions: Something new, something fun and something fresh.

"We want to offer our customers fresh, healthy options that are still gourmet (without the price tag) and made quickly in front of you."

Mr Popenko said they kept the café's name because it was well known and supported by locals already.

"The name Wisdom has a local impact and we wanted to keep that," he said.

The new menu features house-made gourmet sandwiches, made fresh in front of the customer, as well as a salad and pasta of the day, and "Grab n Go" options such as house made sweets and quiches, toasted sandwiches and pre-made gourmet sandwiches.

"Customers will have the option to build their own anything from sandwiches, bagels or poke bowls and they can choose from pulled meats, cheeses and locally grown salads and vegetables.

"The coffee is already a local hit at Wisdom and we will proudly continue to serve Clandestino coffee as our daily fuel. Based on the Sunshine Coast, Clandestino is continually finding the newest and most interesting bean from all over the globe.

"We're excited to create a community hub for locals to drop in on their morning walk or to park their bike to grab a bite to eat and a coffee. And people can grab lunch, coffee and ice cream while at the lagoon."

Initially opening from 7am to 2.30pm, Wednesday to Sunday, the plan is to open seven days a week as soon as it's viable. There is also an online ordering option at www.wisdomcafe.com.au.
