Woman shot in face by ex-husband 'devastated' by appeal

A WOMAN whose ex-husband shot her in the face with a rifle in front of their small children is said to be horrified at the thought her attacker's sentence could be slashed on appeal later this year.

John Jesse Stephens this week appealed his 15-year jail term for attempted murder, claiming his term should be reduced due to his narcissistic personality disorder, the Gold Coast Bulletin reports.

Stephens was convicted of attempted murder in March after the attack at Westfield Helensvale in 2014.

The 46-year-old lay in wait for his wife before rushing at her car with a sawn-off .22 calibre rifle and shooting her in the face in front of several witnesses and the couple's three small children, who were seated in the back of the car.
