Work starts on new roundabout

WORK has started on the $4.4 million Shute Harbour roundabout near Tropic Road Cannonvale and will not be completed until early next year.

Whitsunday police senior constable Simon Docking said the roundabout would assist traffic flow in the area when traffic on Shute Harbour Road was increasing.

“The roundabout will help to decrease speed without slowing the flow of traffic down as well as provide easy access for motorists entering Shute Harbour Road from other roads,” he said.

Whitsunday MP Jan Jarratt said the Whitsunday region would benefit from improved road works.

Signs went up on Tuesday to warn motorists to be aware of the work until December but Ms Jarratt's office confirmed there was no exact date for the project to be finalised and it had been left open to be finished early next year.

Improvements to the Shute Harbour Road and Rifle Road intersection are also planned to start next month.
