Work to start on new roundabout
THERE will be further changes to traffic conditions in Airlie Beach with works to start on finishing the roundabout at the corner of Airlie Esplanade and Coconut Grove.
Ergon started work this week to shift the power to service the new pump station located near the public toilets on the Airlie Beach foreshore.
On completion of electrical works, AllCiv contractors engaged by Port of Airlie will finalise the construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Airlie Esplanade and Coconut Grove over a four week period.
Council's Mayor, Jennifer Whitney said that although it would mean additional works occurring in the heart of Airlie Beach, the completion of the roundabout will be most welcomed.
"Port of Airlie will have a traffic management plan in place which will change to suit the progress of works, ensure there is a smooth flow of traffic and a high level of safety," she said.
"Council would like to thank affected businesses and residents for their continuing patience."
As part of the works, the old sewer pump station will be decommissioned by Port of Airlie and the new pump station will be used. According to Cr Whitney, this will finally eliminate the offending odours which have emanated from the old pump station for several years affecting air quality along the Airlie Beach foreshore.
