DON'T worry if you hate the boss. You're not alone.
In fact, a bad boss is the main reason people quit their jobs, according to a new book.
The author, Tony Wilson, a workplace management expert, has suggested that bosses take a good look at their own management style when employees leave, rather than blaming other factors such as salary or working conditions.
Mr Wilson, who wrote Jack and the Team that Couldn't See, said most managers spent too much time on operations and systems rather than people.
At EnviTE Employment in Lismore, employment consultant Judy Maxworth said conflict in the workplace, with other colleagues as well as the boss, was a major reason people left their jobs.
“That is especially true of young people because they don't know how to resolve it and may not be given the support they need,” she said.
Lynn Reynolds, of First Sun Employment in Lismore, said that about half of the people who sought work named problems with their boss as the reason they wanted to leave their job.
“Lack of work, losing a contract, or being treated poorly are other reasons,” she said.
Vince Lococo, of Alpha Workforce Solutions in Ballina, agreed.
“Clashes with fellow workers, too little pay and not enough work are among the top reasons people leave their employment,” he said.
Mr Wilson said bosses needed to concentrate on open and honest communication with employees and learn how to properly relate to staff.
