THIS is the fastest car in the world ... or would be, if it existed.

Called the X1 Prototype, it's designed by Red Bull F1 guru Adrian Newey to be the star attraction of Gran Turismo 5, the much-delayed Playstation game.

The X1 is powered by a 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 engine that produces 1105kW. The wheels and cockpit are fared in with bodywork for aerodynamics and there's a fan at the rear to help suck the car to the road. Coupled with its light weight (550 kilograms), the X1 can accelerate to 450km/h and from 0-100km/h in 1.4 seconds.

Theoretically speaking.
