Young Bronco Herman Ese'ese is ready if needed

BRISBANE coach Wayne Bennett had a rare smile on his face as he watched unheralded forward Herman Ese'ese bang bodies with Origin forward Josh McGuire and some other Broncos big guns at training this week.

It was just what the master coach wanted to see from the powerful young 21 year-old buck, who may get his debut for Brisbane against South Sydney tomorrow night if Kiwi international Alex Glenn fails to recover from a hip injury that forced him to skip training earlier this week.

Ese'ese and McGuire went at it hard enough during some tackling drills the noise from their impacts quickly grabbed the attention of their teammates.

If he plays just his second game, after making his NRL debut for the Bulldogs against Manly in round seven last year, Ese'ese could come up against English star Sam Burgess.

The 21-year-old has already impressed teammates as someone who create real damage with his 110kg frame and aggressive style.

Glenn would have to train today to get a clearance to line-up against Souths, but New Zealand Test enforcer Adam Blair said he had no doubt Ese'ese would handle the challenge if he was given the call-up.

"One hundred per cent," Blair said when asked about the rookie.

"He's a quiet kid and if he plays you just want him to go out and do his job.

"A lot of the Polynesian boys are quiet, but I think he showed his aggression out there at training against a few of the boys."

South Sydney head to Brisbane with their confidence dented by two recent losses, the most recent when North Queensland piled on 44 points against them last weekend.

They won't get any respite from a Brisbane team which belted Newcastle 53-0 and is yet to play its best football.
