Young Endeavour coming to Airlie
FOR the first time in eight years, the Young Endeavour is circumnavigating Australia, and will be visiting Airlie Beach on July 9, 2009. Local youths have the chance to apply for an 11 day voyage as part of the circumnavigation event.
A voyage on the Young Endeavour is a unique challenge.
Youth crew experience 11 days at sea, living and working with 23 other young people from all over Australia and receive training by staff from the Royal Australian Navy while learning to sail a ship which is capable of taking on any ocean in the world.
Along the way remote areas of Australia's coastline are explored. But sailing experience is not required; it's all about being up for a challenge.
Onboard, young people participate in a dynamic development program that can be a life-changing experience.
Young Australians aged 16 - 23 can apply now for a berth with applications required to be made by March to be in with a chance of a voyage from July - December 2009. Applicants are selected by ballot.
An 11 day voyage costs $1,650 with financial and travel assistance available to eligible applicants.
Applications for a youth crew berth can be entered online at www.youngendeavour.gov.au or by telephoning 1800 020 444.
