Young golfer to represent region

PROSERPINE junior golfer Mathew Bower has been selected in the North Queensland school's golf team to compete in Toowoomba from July 14-18.

Mathew's improving golf game was recognised by team selectors who selected the talented 12-year-old as one of only five primary school players from the North Queensland region to compete at the regional championships next weekend.

The primary school team will be joined by the twelve members of the high school team that features the brightest young golfing talents from Proserpine right up through to Ingham.

After picking up golf two years ago, the year seven student will now have an opportunity to push for state team selection with a strong showing in next weekend's titles.

"I started playing golf two years ago and after giving it a go I really enjoyed it. It's exciting to make the NQ team and hopefully I can do well in Toowoomba," he said.

Mathew attended a training camp in Mackay this week and said he can't wait to get out on course in Toowoomba.
