Your chance to join reef's wild orgy

THEY only have sex once a year and Fantasea Adventure Cruising is inviting guests to witness them engaged in what is one of the Great Barrier Reef's natural wonders.

They are the reef's hard corals which, over a few nights every year, indulge in a mass spawning as coral sperm and eggs float to the surface.

While spawning can be difficult to predict, Fantasea's marine biologist Emily Smart believes that this year, the nights of November 15, 16 and 17 are the most likely.

For the first time, in an exclusive offering, Fantasea will cruise to the reef to allow guests to experience night snorkelling or for those who are qualified, scuba diving during the spawn.

The company is planning to cruise to its Fantasea Reefworld pontoon on Hardy Reef, 80km from the mainland, for the dive and snorkel excursion, leaving Shute Harbour at 4pm, Hamilton Island at 4.45pm and returning about midnight.

Guests will be provided with a torch to witness the coral spawning spectacular.

For further details on this unique opportunity to witness coral spawning, call 4967 5455 or visit Fantasea.
