Youth on show at our PCYC

THE Whitsunday PCYC was packed to its rafters last Saturday for the region's inaugural own Sporting and Activity Youth Expo.

The event was held to celebrate National Youth Week and to showcase what was on offer for youth in the Whitsundays.

On the day there were 15 exhibitors who put on displays and stalls to inform the 500 strong crowd of what they have to offer.

Whitsunday PCYC branch manager John Dickinson said it was great to see so many exhibitors and people come and find out more about clubs and organisations in the Whitsundays.

“It was pretty successful,” he said.

“People are always asking us ‘what is there to do for youth' so we came up with the expo.

“We had a number of displays and information stalls on the day.

“In the end I think it was a good way to showcase what we have on offer for youth.”

Among the exhibitors on the day were Whitsunday BMX Club, Whitsunday Sailing Club, Kyokushin Karate, Lifesavers and many more.

Mr Dickinson this was why the event was so successful.

With youth bands, a barbecue and tea and coffee adding to the atmosphere, Dickinson said there was opportunities for more events such as this in the future.

“Hopefully we can so it again and make it bigger and better,” he said.

“It's all about giving the kids the opportunity to make a sound choice.”
