Youths enjoy their new space

PROSERPINE Youthspace has moved into its new digs behind Spanny's Whitsunday Real Estate.

On Monday afternoon, enthusiastic young people filled the large, well-lit room and set about devising their own rules for the space.

Proserpine Youthspace assistant co-ordinator Emily Hopper said the youths were getting involved so they could take ownership of their new space.

"We've asked the youth to come up with their own rules for the space and how the centre is run," Ms Hopper said.

"They need to be happy with the rules and so do we."

Youthspace member Noel Waipape spent part of his weekend helping set up the new centre.

"This space is much bigger compared to the old one and there's more space to move around," he said.

"It's nicer and has better air conditioning than the old one."

Ms Hopper said it was wonderful to get a new space that had been tailor-made to suit the group's needs and she was looking forward to the grand opening later this month.

"We want to open up to the community more - host movie nights and open up on Saturdays once a month," Ms Hopper said.

"It's going to be wicked."
