THE Liberals have held on to Joe Hockey's North Sydney electorate despite a swing towards the Greens and independents.

Candidate Trent Zimmerman (pictured) won the seat at Saturday's by-election although there was a 13% swing away from the Liberal Party.

The election was triggered when Mr Hockey retired from politics after the September Liberal Party leadership spill.
