Zonta celebrates Pink Ribbon Day
PINK breast cushions, drip bottle bags and hats were just some of the free items available for breast cancer patients at the Zonta Club of the Whitsundays' Pink Ribbon Day stall held at the Lions Airlie Beach Community Markets last fortnight.
Pink Ribbon Day is an annual event run by the Cancer Council which aims to raise funds and awareness about breast and gynaecological cancers on October 28.
Zonta Club of the Whitsundays secretary Noelene Helman said all proceeds from the stall would go to the Breast Care Nurses to support their work in the local community.
"Our main aim is to raise awareness about breast cancer but we were happy to have raised $240 through the sale of home-made brownies and our fruit cocktails," she said.
There was also a free DVD available titled Side by Side which is a virtual road map for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, their family and friends of what to expect from the time of diagnosis.
"Many people came up because they have had a relative who had been diagnosed or were patients themselves so the DVD is a great way for them to get the information they need in the comfort of their own homes," Ms Helman said.
"We also want to give a big thank you to Coles Supermarket for their donation of fruit for the stall."
The Zonta Club of the Whitsundays will be hosting an Orange Day stall at the markets on Saturday, November 23 to help raise awareness for the international campaign - Zonta Says No to Domestic Violence.
