Zonta Club celebrates 15 years in Whitsundays
IT WAS a night of glitz and glamour as the Zonta Club of the Whitsundays celebrated its 15th birthday at the Reef Gateway Hotel last Thursday.
More than 60 people attended the celebration which attracted charter members from Sydney, Brisbane and Townsville.
Zonta's area director Hilary Grant also made the trip from Charter Towers for the milestone event.
Local media liaison Sandii Hansen said the evening was sensational.
"A major highlight for many of us was that we were able to welcome so many of the charter members back to the Whitsundays for the celebration," she said.
"It was the first time in the history of Zonta that we had all the presidents of the club together since the club was foundered in 1999."
A fantastic presentation on the history of the club was made by Joan Watson and Pam Graham with Ann Leathwick, May McPhail, Verniece Irving-Lee, Zonta Whitsundays president Angela Spicer and Hillary Grant also making speeches.
"The presentations transported us right back to 1999 through to the current day which showed how productive we have been in the local community over the past 15 years and we will definitely continue on," Ms Hansen said.
A special presentation was also made to honour all presidents of the club.
The Zonta Club of the Whitsundays will be hosting their next breakfast meeting at the Coffee Club on Tuesday, April 3 at 7.30am.
Rowena Kissun from the Whitsunday Health Clinic will be the guest speaker at the event and new members are welcome to attend. For more information email zontaclub7@hotmail.com.
